Who are we?

In 2008, Emmanuel Rengade, owner and founder of Pousada Picinguaba, a small hotel nearby on the beautiful Brazilian coastline, was looking for a place up in the hills to grow fresh vegetables for his restaurant, when following a tiny dirt road he stumbled on the Fazenda’s property, and got captured by the unique beauty of the place.

The adventure began.

In Catuçaba, we have tried to create a different place, with a different approach to the luxury hotel business. A place permeated by a sense of quality, where the standard of service means not only the use of the best products available, but also that you get it with a genuine smile. A place where you feel as if you were at home or staying with friends that share common values, like the love of beautiful things, nature, a taste for good food, music, beautiful surroundings. There is a combination of ease, friendliness, open-mindedness and discretion.

Friends, artists in Residence, guests, interns, volunteers, local employees, all have contributed to creating a unique spirit in Catuçaba.

Unlike a traditional hotel, people who work here have often left everything in their country to live their passion for this place.

Jeff and Suzanna Jones had good jobs in San Francisco when after a honeymoon in Picinguaba, they asked to be part of the Fazenda adventure and gave a year of their life to this place (www.rootedjourneys.com).

Emmanuel Cabale, local developer and farm manager, moved from Spain in 2010 to live at the Fazenda, and Isabelle and Thomas arrived from Paris with their 3 children a few months ago, to take care of operations.

This all provides a precious mix of cultures, a collective adventure, created by the desire to receive our guests in style, but also to engage in numerous commitments with the local nature and the community.
